Man pleads guilty in inappropriate touching case

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced a guilty plea in a case involving crimes against a child.

Francesco Baio, of New Berlin, pleaded guilty in Afton Town Court on Oct. 15 to endangering the welfare of a child, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Baio was arrested by New York State Police on January 25 after an investigation revealed that he had inappropriately touched a person under the age of 17. He was 69 years old at the time of his arrest.

The case was handled by the Broome County District Attorney’s Office due to a conflict of interest in Chenango County.

Baio is expected to be sentenced to probation on January 7, 2025. He will also need to be evaluated for alcohol, mental health and sex offender counselling.

The prosecutor also said that any supervisor with prior approval from the probation officer will be instructed not to have unsupervised contact with children under 17.

A protection order was issued for the complaining witness.
