Everton return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s. The Blues drew with Fulham in the last match and extended their unbeaten streak in the top flight to five matches.

Beto’s stoppage time header won Sean Dyche at some point Goodison Park. The striker headed home in the fourth minute of added time for cancellation Alex Iwobi just after the opening hour mark.

Southampton are at the bottom of the table and have only one point. Considering both games, Everton The jury returned for their say.

Paul McParlan – Only Human

Sometimes, as a fan, it’s easy to forget that football players are people too. They worry about their place in the team, get stressed about their performance, can be hurt by criticism in the stadium and on social media, and have to manage the unrelenting expectations of fans who demand nothing less than never-ending success. for their teams.

Beto’s emotional reaction after scoring the equalizing goal Stoppage time against Fulham Last Saturday was a stark reminder of this fact. Who wouldn’t be impressed after listening to his post-match interview in which he explains how frustrating it was to train hard all week and be sent back to the bench on match day?

It is a common belief that football players do not care about the club, they only care about the size of their salary package. Beto’s harsh reaction showed how much he cared about this situation and how hard he worked to succeed in the game. It was very reassuring to hear him express his love for the club and how grateful he was for the support of the fans.

This was not a well-scripted, well-rehearsed, planned normal response. Everton media team; It clearly came from the heart. And it definitely worked!

Beto’s cameo was one of the few rewarding moments in a hard-hitting performance on Saturday that sent many fans into a catatonic trance. Once again, Sean Dyche waited too long to adjust his game plan, which clearly wasn’t working.

Beto changed the tide dramatically when he entered the game, but why didn’t he play along? Dominic Calvert-Lewin instead of replacing it? Well, if the manager believes, Blues No. What does it say about 9? Michael Keane Would he be a more effective strike partner in the closing minutes?

Playing with two strikers suddenly created all kinds of problems for the guest team’s defense and they had difficulty in dealing with these problems. Maybe making this decision earlier might have won us the game?

Five matches have been played so far in the final season at the Old Lady, and none of them will truly stick in the memory. A single win and a terrible diet of football was not what we expected to witness in all seasons. But if our only goal is to move to the new stadium Premier League On the other hand, it is something we may have to accept.

There are some positives though; Their five-match unbeaten streak is encouraging, with only a single goal conceded during that stretch. The trip to Southampton is a very winnable game against the last placed team. If we play like we played at Ipswich Town, we can easily get all three points there.

Is this the ideal play to give Beto a starting role? In the 2022/23 season, he scored 10 goals in 33 matches for Udinese in the Serie A league, which is not known for its weak defense, and proved himself in one of the toughest tournaments in Europe.

Maybe it’s time? Shout out to you Sean

Alex McMonnies – Disappointment is more than understandable

From Everton’s perspective, Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Fulham was extremely frustrating. From the first whistle, blues They were noticeably second best in all aspects of their game and found themselves neutralized by a thoroughly professional and organized display from the Cottagers.

It was probably the worst performance he ever produced. Sean Dyche Despite the players so far this season, a point was still achieved thanks to the last-gasp equaliser. betoThis canceled out former Everton player Alex Iwobi’s strike on the hour mark.

The frustration is all too understandable. Most of the time, of Everton It can be difficult to watch the style of play, where players get their way and constantly try to force mistakes out of the opposition with long balls and direct passes. When this doesn’t work, anger is directed at the manager for employing these ‘negative’ tactics.

However, suggestions that this group of players would immediately switch to a more comprehensive system based on short passes and patient accumulation are fanciful to say the least. Everton’s squad is one of the cheapest in the world. Premier LeagueSo is it really surprising that this fact is so often reflected in the results this team produces?

We all knew going into this season that football would get ugly at times, but the truth is that the Toffees are unbeaten in their last five league games. So far this season we’ve had much better performances than what we saw against Fulham on Saturday and we’ve come up with nothing. These things balance out over the course of the 38-game season and the situation the club is in means our sole focus is still on picking up enough points to stay top of the table in the first place.

We’ve experienced both ends of the scale in the last two weeks. 2-0 win away at Ipswich This was an example of the joy a Dyche team can produce; The undeserved draw with Fulham is a situation that can happen when we face one of the many teams in this league that are better than us. Let’s all embrace the positive days as they come and trust that this manager will take us to new ground as a Premier League team, at which point we can start looking up again.

A trip to Southampton awaits us at the weekend. Another enjoyable day of viewing if our final trip to face a newly promoted side is anything to go by Everton It may well be in the cards.

James O’Brien – Our performance was terrible

Saturday afternoon was extremely disappointing and for me the late equalizer did nothing but patch up the cracks.

There’s no denying that Fulham have become a bit of a scary team for Everton in recent years, and considering that, you could argue that a draw is a good result.

But the performance we put in was awful and there was no real challenge or tactical flair from Everton. Considering it was last year Goodison ParkYou would expect this to be a goal clubs fear to come to, but Saturday proved that this is far from the case. Instead, at times it looked like we were a lower league team hosting Fulham in the cup.

It was a great moment for Beto to score and seeing that emotion take over him is something that will definitely increase his stock with the fans. He worked hard the moment he arrived, chased every ball, and was eventually rewarded for his efforts. It was a strange decision to take out a striker before playing Michael Keane at the top, but who knows what will happen to Everton now?

I claim that Dominic Calvert Lewin He has become very comfortable in the striker role and his performances show it. While it is undoubtedly true that Everton’s tactics can hinder any attacking player, I think this “excuse” begins to mask some underlying issues for the striker.

He has missed many 1v1 opportunities this season and I don’t think he has made the same effort to chase the ball or win headers as he once did. Whether their focus has changed due to their contract situation or another reason, Everton need to try a new approach. With Armando Broja And Youssef Chermiti He will be back soon and with Beto securing crucial points, in my eyes it is time for DCL to spend some time on the bench and work to regain his place. I believe he is a good striker and I would love him to break things up between us. Premier League He has a goalscoring record but his form in front of goal is shocking and he is expected to almost miss.

Southampton are next up and there is no excuse for Everton not being able to take the full three points. They are at rock bottom and managed to pick up just one point from the draw against Ipswich. Also, there is additional motivation after them. We somehow beat us on penalties at home in the Carabao Cup.

For this game I think Branthwaite should be brought back into the starting lineup while also moving. Ashley Young Left back to give Nathan Patterson his first chance of the season. There are big question marks over McNeil’s fitness but if he is fit I would move him back to the left midfield role and give Ndiaye a proper chance as a second striker.

Even though I think McNeil is good, his confidence in his left foot is starting to become detrimental in attacks.

Dyche is still under pressure for me and I think after last week’s game we need to get past Southampton tactically and get a big win to boost confidence in the club. We have more than enough power to defeat them – COYB!
