Kamala Harris refuses to say whether she will vote against tougher sentences in California

Kamala Harris refused to answer when asked how she would vote for a measure that would impose harsher sentences on criminals in California.

The vice president debated whether he cast his own vote in the final hours of the race while taking questions from reporters in Michigan on Sunday.

The Democratic nominee confirmed he will vote by mail and hopes it arrives in his state in time.

He was later grilled about how he voted for Proposition 36, a ballot measure that could have been tough on crime.

Harris is campaigning frantically in swing states less than 48 hours before one of the closest presidential elections in history.

The weekend polls saw a surge, with a New York Times poll showing him trailing in just two of seven swing states and a striking Des Moines Register poll showing Trump ahead in the deep red state of Iowa.

‘I’ve got my ballot, it’s headed to California, and I’m going to trust the system to get there and I’m not going to talk about voting on this one, because honestly, it’s Sunday. “I don’t intend to create any kind of support around the election,” he said.

Proposition 36 would strengthen penalties for certain drug and theft crimes and reverse the progressive criminal justice reforms under Proposition 47.

This would convert repeat shoplifting and crimes involving fentanyl from misdemeanors to felonies and crack down on repeat offenders.

The measure is unpopular among progressive Democrats and California Gov. Gavin Newsom; It’s overwhelmingly popular among Californians.

Harris’ criminal record and her record as a prosecutor in San Francisco were a frequent line of attack by Republicans during the campaign.

Trump and his allies have focused on lenient sentences and criminals who recidivate after being released from prison.

The GOP also linked the vice president to immigrants committing violent crimes after crossing the border.

Harris also used her time as California’s top law enforcement official to prove that she was qualified to be President of the United States.

He was evasive again when asked about Proposition 36 in October.

“I haven’t voted yet and I haven’t actually read it yet,” Harris told reporters before a flight from Detroit to New Jersey in response to a question about Proposition 36. “But I’ll let you know.”

Harris also refrained from taking a stance on Proposition 47 when it is on the ballot in California in 2024.

This measure reduced the number of people sentenced to prison for nonviolent drug crimes and sent millions of people to treatment and rehabilitation programs.

It also called for misdemeanor charges to anyone who steals goods valued under $950.

As a result, retailers were left relatively helpless when it came to stealing from their stores.

Walmart and In-N-Out Burger are among the companies funding the campaign behind Proposition 36.
