Texas Longhorns WR Johntay Cook will enter the transfer portal

At Thursday’s press conference, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed Cook’s departure. “Obviously we had some movement on the roster today with Johntay Cook moving on,” Sarkisian said. “We have nothing but respect for him and his family. I wish him success in his future life.” When asked who made the decision, Sark said, “It was a joint decision between both of us.”

Cook has 8 catches for 137 yards (17.1 yards per catch) and two touchdowns this season, but the DeSoto product has not had a reception since the Sept. 28 game against Mississippi State.

Considered a key piece of the future roster, Cook found himself pushed out of the rotation by the likes of Isaiah Bond, DeAndre Moore, Matthew Golden, Ryan Wingo and veteran Silas Bolden.

Cook, a 5-star high school graduate, was part of the much-heralded 2023 recruiting class that included Arch Manning.
