A political storm has erupted in poll-bound Maharashtra after state Congress chief Nana Patole asked voters to make the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a “kutta” (dog) in the November 20 elections.

These remarks drew the ire of the BJP, which called Patole “disappointed” for accepting the fact that the Congress will not come to power in Maharashtra.

Patole was heard saying at a meeting in Akola on Monday: “I want to ask you, OBCs in Akola district, will you vote for the BJP that calls you a ‘kutta’?… It is time to make the BJP a ‘kutta’.” “

BJP Reacted Harshly

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari slammed the Maharashtra Congress chief and said it showed the party’s “emergency” mentality.

“Nana Patole is frustrated because once he lands he can understand that the Congress will not form a government in Maharashtra. “But in his disappointment, he said that he wanted to tame the BJP like dogs,” he said.

“This shows the ‘Emergency’ mentality of the Congress Party, which wants to tame, contain, prosecute and silence its opponents. I condemn the word used by Nana Patole but it also shows their inferiority complex. Yesterday, Karnataka Congress leader Zameer Ahmed used the term ‘kaala’ for his opponent. This is a racist term. Today they use the term ‘kutta’… I can understand Nana Patole’s disappointment. When they don’t form their government, they get angry and say nonsense,” Bhandari added.

BJP leader Navneet Rana said such statements by the Congress showed “disappointment”.

“They are frustrated because they are ruling the country, now the people of Maharashtra know that those who will work and work for the benefit of the country will stand with them. Such statements show their disappointment,” Rana said.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections will be held on November 20 and the counting of votes will be done on November 23.
