Murder trial to begin for Lockport man accused of stabbing woman to death in Elmira

A man from Niagara County He was accused of stabbing a woman to death in Elmira More than three years ago, he will finally go to trial the week of November 18th.

Stephen M. Pesesky III, 34, of Lockport, New York, was indicted by a Chemung County grand jury in late October 2021 for second-degree murder and first-degree assault in connection with the death of Jennifer A. Karda, also of Lockport. he was 34 years old at the time.

According to the Elmira Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on October 16, 2021, in the 900 block of Johnson Street, several blocks from the Elmira College campus.

Officers and paramedics attempted to provide immediate life-saving measures to Karda, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The gunman left the scene before officers arrived, but police took Pesesky into custody later the same day.

Police at the time did not provide details about the relationship between Pesesky and Karda or why they were both in Elmira, but said they knew each other.

According to the indictment, Pesesky stabbed Karda multiple times with a sharp instrument.

Pesesky remains in custody at the Chemung County Jail.
