According to officials, Delhi’s transport department will soon start sending challans to commercial vehicle owners via WhatsApp. Those who do not use WhatsApp will be contacted via SMS and e-mail.

There are around 82 lakh active vehicles in Delhi and around 1,000-1,500 e-challans are issued daily. Officials said this number could increase much more when the new traffic control system comes into effect.

“The process of hiring a service provider for Challan audit of commercial vehicles registered in Delhi has begun,” a senior transport department official said.

“The main aim is to create and send personalized content using hyperlinks, PDFs and texts for e-challans and other services,” he said.

For this, challans for individuals will need to be accessed from the e-Parivahan portal, he added.

The service provider will set up WhatsApp accounts integrated with e-challans to send the payment link given by the transport department to vehicle owners and provide a user interface for the app developed by the department to send WhatsApp notifications and messages to its registered users. in question.

The messages will be in both English and Hindi and the messaging framework will be able to send messages in various formats such as images, videos and PDFs as allowed by WhatsApp.

According to officials, the process of automatically sending e-challans, certificates, user manuals and other notifications such as deadline reminders, payment receipts and notifications to vehicle owners will be carried out via WhatsApp.
