Anthony Gordon’s injury situation revealed by Eddie Howe after Chelsea omission

Anthony Gordon’s injury situation revealed by Eddie Howe after Chelsea omission

Newcastle United have finally announced that Anthony Gordon has agreed a new extended contract.

Anthony Gordon then gets injured and misses the next game.

Only in Newcastle United…

The Newcastle team – Chelsea were announced today at 12.45pm and Anthony Gordon was not there, not even on the bench.

Eddie Howe has now explained why to Sky Sports:

“He felt his groin during training yesterday.

“He traveled with us in the hope that he could win the game, but it didn’t happen.

“This is undoubtedly a blow for us because he has pace and is an outstanding player.

“But Harvey Barnes came in and has been excellent this season and I still love the team we have.”

This feels like it couldn’t have come at a worse time, as seven days saw two games away and home against Chelsea followed by Arsenal at St James’ Park.

The only positive is that Anthony Gordon is still traveling and what Eddie Howe has said, hopefully it just suggests a precaution and there will be no long term absence. Of course it would be great for Gordon to return as early as Wednesday but for me I would happily take assurances that he will return to Arsenal next weekend.

Newcastle United team vs Chelsea:

Pope, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Joelinton, Bruno, Tonali, Barnes, Isak, Almiron
