Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira decided to part ways after almost 30 years of marriage. Their lawyer, Vandana Shah, confirmed the joint decision and requested the family’s privacy during this difficult time.

Vandana Shah told ANI, “The divorce has not happened yet. I represent both. I can’t explain why, but this has been a 29-year marriage. Ups and downs are common in any marriage. A painful decision, but a mutual one. “At this point, the family’s privacy should be respected.”

The news was first announced in a joint statement issued by Saira’s lawyer, Vandana Shah. The couple cited “serious emotional tension” as the reason for their decision to part ways.

Part of the statement reads: “On behalf and on the instructions of Ms. Saira and her husband, renowned musician Allahrakka Rahman (AR Rahman), Vandana Shah and Associates has issued the following statement regarding the couple’s decision to part ways.”

The statement also included the following statements: “After years of marriage, Ms. Saira and her husband, Mr. A R. Rahman, made the difficult decision to separate from each other. This decision came after serious emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple realized that tensions and difficulties had created an unbridgeable gulf between them, a gulf that neither party could currently bridge. Ms. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman emphasize that they have taken this decision out of pain and suffering.”

The composer also shared the news on his X account on Wednesday, stating that they hoped to celebrate their “big thirties”, but life had different plans.

“We were hoping to reach the big thirty, but it seems like everything has an unseen end. Even God’s throne may tremble under the weight of broken hearts. But in this fragmentation, we are looking for meaning, even if the pieces can never find their place again. “To our friends, we thank you for your kindness and respect for our privacy during this sensitive period,” he said.

AR Rahman and Saira got married in 1995 and have three children: Khatija, Raheema and Ameen.
