New police body camera video shows stabbing suspect shot at suburban car dealership

DEKALB, Illinois — Authorities have released new video showing an officer-involved shooting at a suburban car dealership last month.

Illinois State Police (ISP) troopers announced Tuesday that they will be releasing video of the incident, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at a car dealership in the 18000 block of Sycamore Road in DeKalb.

“In keeping with the Illinois State Police’s (ISP) commitment to integrity and public transparency, the ISP is releasing video of a non-fatal officer-involved shooting after consulting with and receiving permission from the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office.” an ISP spokesperson said in a news release shared Tuesday.

DeKalb police said they were called to the scene of a stabbing at the car dealership. The officers first said this He said a boss got angry and attacked employees, stabbing one of them in the hand.

When officers arrived on scene, they immediately encountered the suspect, 32-year-old Charles Tripicchio, who was at the business and allegedly brandished a knife at them.

Faced with a threat, two police officers then opened fire and attacked Tripicchio, according to ISP.

Following the attack, police officers assisted Tripicchio, who was later transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Police said the employee who was stabbed was treated at the scene and released.

Tripicchio has since been charged with three counts of armed violence, attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery, destruction of property and aggravated assault, troopers said. ​

ISP has since turned its investigation over to the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Officials did not provide booking photos for Tripicchio.
