Teacher protects student from attack by 5 people in Bayonne – NBC New York

An 18-year-old and four minors have been charged with an attack on a New Jersey high school student that left him unconscious — and it would have been much worse if a teacher hadn’t stepped in to protect the student with his own gun. body.

The violence happened earlier in the week on a street corner outside a Bayonne school. The woman who broke up the fight was identified by her family as a local special education teacher, but the principal asked that her name not be used.

The woman’s daughter said she had to watch the viral video of the attack on her mobile phone several times before she realized it was her mother who used her body to prevent the young victim from being repeatedly kicked, punched and trampled by the attackers.

“I was truly in shock at how violent the attack was,” his daughter said. “I Facetimed her right away. Her eyes were filled with tears. ‘Are you okay?’ I said, “He said something very bad happened.”

Police charged an 18-year-old man and four juveniles with aggravated assault. The victim, a high school student, lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were unclear.

The teacher, now known as a hero, was not injured. His family said they were not surprised that he was willing to participate.

“Thank God he got on top of her because there was no end in sight. He wasn’t doing anything on his feet,” the victim’s daughter said. “I know his thought process came to a halt, and he kept saying, ‘We called the cops, we called the cops,’ and the kids wouldn’t stop. He just had to stop them, that’s why his body was like that. There was no thought behind it.”

One parent said he recently saw similar fights in this area, just steps from the school.

“As a parent, one of our last concerns is if fights break out, but unfortunately in the last year or two it has become more frequent,” the father said.

The minors who were attacked were between the ages of 15 and 18. The district superintendent said the teacher represents what everyone who lives and works in Bayonne is all about.
