Washington home raid leads to arrest in shooting 2 weeks ago

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An East Carolina man is behind bars after deputies say a raid on a Washington home linked him to a shooting that occurred two weeks ago.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office said today they completed their investigation into the Oct. 9 shooting on Jimmy Lane in Washington after raiding a home on Marva Drive and arresting Zyere Godley.

The 19-year-old Washington man was charged with discharging a weapon on occupied property, felony conspiracy and destruction of personal property.

Deputies say Godley was denied bail on the charges and remains in the Pitt County Jail.

But Godley wasn’t the only person arrested after the raid. Deputies say they arrested 23-year-old Dominic Maurizzio from the searched home with intent to sell/deliver marijuana.

Deputies say Maurizzio was initially denied bail due to pending charges related to an unrelated shooting in Wake County in 2022. But this morning he was given a $5,000 bail. Deputies say he remains in the Pitt County Jail after failing to post bail.

According to the information provided by the deputies, a large number of weapons, ammunition, many gun parts and 35.3 grams of marijuana were seized during the raid.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office said more charges are expected.
