Des Moines Officers Cleared by Attorney General

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) -The Iowa Attorney General’s Office announced that no charges will be filed against Des Moines Police Officers who killed a man during a shooting in September.

The attorney general’s office found that Senior Constable Jacob Boekhoff, Officer Frankie Contreras and Captain Chad Steffen were justified in shooting Joshua Green.

Des Moines Police Officer Cade Moritz was shot in the head during the shootings. Boekhoff was shot in the arm. Both officers continue to recover from their injuries.

It all happened near Easton Boulevard and Hubbell Boulevard. Police said Green walked away from police during the traffic stop. He had an accident shortly after. The report states that Green refused to get out of the car. The officers charged him and he fell to the ground. There he rolled over, drew his gun and fired at the officers. Officers Boekhoff, Frankie Contreras and Capt. Chad Steffen returned fire, killing Green.

Green’s passenger, Shawnna Cunningham, is accused of providing him with the gun.

The Polk County District Attorney’s Office had already cleared the officers of any wrongdoing.
