Fast Track Special Court on Wednesday sentenced a 68-year-old man to life imprisonment on two counts of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.

The man, identified as Vikraman, was also fined ₹60,000. If the fine is not paid, an additional 6 months of imprisonment will be imposed. He was also sentenced to an additional 14 years in prison.

In her order, Special Judge Rekha R. said that life imprisonment and fixed sentences will run concurrently. Special public prosecutor RS Vijay Mohan joined the prosecution.

The court is expected to rule on a related case in which Vikraman is accused of molesting the victim’s nine-year-old sister on November 5.

The events related to the case took place in 2020 and 2021. The defendant lived with their grandmother, who cared for the children. They lived in rented houses in Murukkumpuzha and Varikkamukku. The defendant began abusing the children while their grandmother was away from home.

The incident came to light when an ASHA worker and Anganwadi teacher in the area alerted Childline about the plight of children.
