Ministry of Women expands outreach – FBC News

The Ministry of Women is working with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Rural Development to deliver important information and empowerment sessions for rural women in Fiji.

Minister for Women Lynda Tabuya emphasizes the importance of these initiatives.

She adds that while significant progress has been made in rural areas, there is an urgent need to extend these efforts to urban women.

“But since 25 percent of our population lives in informal and slum settlements, many of whom are in poverty, we need to extend these efforts to urban women as well. They also need access to this information. “Even though they have access to hospital, they often do not take advantage of the services available to them, even though cancer is preventable.”

Tabuya emphasized that although these women have access to health facilities, they are often unable to benefit from available services, which is worrying considering that cancer is preventable.

She says the ministry is committed to addressing these inequalities by creating programs that empower all women, regardless of their living conditions.
