PPP/C NA councilor returns to meetings after Supreme Court overturns restraining order

-Continues to press for answers on financial matters

CAROL Trim-Bagot, Mayor of New Amsterdam and one of the City Council’s People’s Progressive Party/Civic councilors, attended her first legal meeting on Monday following the New Amsterdam Superior Court’s decision to overturn the restraining order.

New Amsterdam Mayor and City Council, led by APNU+AFC, suspended Trim due to allegations of disorderly conduct; but Trim had claimed the suspension was a planned attack on him after he spoke out about financial irregularities at council level.

Undeterred, Trim-Bagot appealed to the court, which led to his suspension being annulled as unconstitutional.

“The Court granted a writ of certiorari setting aside the Respondent’s decision to suspend the Applicant (Trim – Bagot) from the services of the Council for three (3) months on the grounds of improper exercise and excessive use of power. The court’s decision said it was “unlawful, unreasonable and malicious.”

It was also ordered that the council pay a total of $50,000 to Trim-Bagot within three (3) months from the date of this decision.

After arriving at the council’s statutory meeting on Monday, Trim-Bagot was welcomed by the mayor, who acknowledged his presence.

Still, Trim-Bagot urged council during the meeting to be upfront about “the money is coming from Town Day.” He said: “He’s not here yet. I have received calls from several people at this agency who say they are not getting paid, so I will ask the City Clerk or Treasurer. “I want to know where the money is from the town and the barbecue held here.”

The Mayor and City Council of New Amsterdam recently celebrated the anniversary with various events.

“These are inconsistencies that I have raised repeatedly on this floor, and I think that is part of what led to my suspension,” Trim-Bagot stressed to council.

He added that there is also a model at council level where there is no specific councilor who has to provide the account number for the money.

“I’m happy to be back and will continue to speak out on this council until we fix the situation,” he added.

Another PPP/C councilor, Nicole Luther, said they were also seeking clarity regarding revenues from the recent Town Day.

“How much money was made for the Town Day event? Who are the promoters? “So that the public knows who the supporters are.”

Additionally, Luther pointed out that for one of the events, a company had applied to host it on Stellings Road, New Amsterdam, but it was later found that another company known to a certain APNU+AFC council member had done all the publicity and this event apparently took place. responsible for the event.

Luther, who created a poster, said: “I want to know what’s going on because I’m a little bit confused because one person applied to hold this event and another person who is a councilor was the person promoting it and he was the one.” raising money… my issue is who is the real organizer of the Town Day event on Mathew Allen Road and where is the money? Was it deposited into the account?

Meanwhile, New Amsterdam Mayor Wainwright McIntosh updated the council, noting that the City Day events had recently concluded, and said he was still awaiting a report after which he would brief the council and the media.
